My Name

I have a very unique name. I have googled it (my whole name) and I am the only one in this country that has this name. I really like my name. When I was younger I always used a nickname  because my name seems to be for an older woman.  It is hard to think of calling a little two year old girl by the name of Winifred. My parents always called me Wendy. When I was little and all through school I was the only person I knew of with that name, either, now Wendy is a very popular name for a girl, but not Winifred.

Winifred comes from England. And it's meaning is quite wonderful . It means "lover of peace".  Don't you just love that? And does it ever fit me. Growing up and into my adult years I had a lot of drama in my family, as many of us do. When I married all that changed. My husband was more conservative and quiet. Not much drama going on with him. I did not grow up with a lot of peace and I truly did not know what it was so I labeled it "boredom".  Then having three sons I , once again, had plenty of drama and activity....oh for a little boredom.   Now , in my older years  I now know what that boredom was, It was "Peace" and I have grown to love it. I am a true "lover of peace" and my name fits me well.

There is something in a Name. Especially when it's yours. You want people to say it correctly and are usually quick to correct their pronunciation of it. You want it spelled correctly in letters and  documents of importance, and resent the fact that someone may have spelled it wrong. Of course, it is of great importance that is be spelled correctly on your driver license or marriage certificate and any other legal document and can really be a hassle if you have to go have it changed of fixed legally.  A name is very important.

Another thing about your name. You don't want it to be drug through the dirt and to become besmirched.  You want to have a good name of reputation, one that is thought of in a positive way. When people go to name their children they want to name them a name that is doesn't have a negative history. For instance, you don't hear of too many children being named Hitler, or Jezebel (Please, don't be offended if that is your name...make it your goal to strive to change that image.) for obvious reason.

Yes, names are important , especially yours or mine.

The point being, we have a Creator, and he has a Name.  I will be using the JPS Old Testament (1917) also know as the Tanakh throughout my blog. Most all of us grew up thinking that His Name LORD, God, Father, Adonai, El, the Almighty, and others, but all of these words are not names, they are correct titles for Him. Just like I am a woman, a mother, an aunt, a grandma, but these are not my name. My name is Winifred.  The name of the Creator was not known until He revealed it to Moses. I like to look at it this way.

In a court of royalty you would address the king as "Sire" . Or in a court of law you would call the judge, "Your Honor".  And in business you use  Mr. or Mrs.

When Moses came along and the Creator wanted to call out a people from Egypt to make His own nation He told Moses. (paraphrasing) " You have known me as Elohim, or God Almighty. Well, I have a name and you don't have to call me Mr. God, you can call me by my Name. We will be on a first name basis because we are going to become very close friends".  Actually they became closer than friends but that is another subject. Let it just be said The Creator revealed His name to Moses for the first time because He and Israel, Moses' people, were going to become really thick friends.

Just like my name and most others it has a meaning. And this meaning describes who He is. He had a way of doing that, when you read your Bibles you will notice often times the meaning of the name is given and it represents something about that person. So The Creator told Moses what His name was and what it meant. This is the famous setting with the burning bush.

Exodus 3:11And Moses said unto God: 'Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?' 12And He said: 'Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be the token unto thee, that I have sent thee: when thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.' 13And Moses said unto God: 'Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them: The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me: What is His name? what shall I say unto them?' 14And God said unto Moses: 'I AM THAT I AM'; and He said: 'Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel: I AM hath sent me unto you.' 15And God said moreover unto Moses: 'Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel: YHWH, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you; this is My name for ever, and this is My memorial unto all generations.

Now we have a Name , a forever name, that identifies out of all the so called gods in the world the one true Creator of man and He has chosen a man and a nation to identify with on a first name basis. How important is that Name?

Now why in the world does all our texts from the Bibles use the word LORD to identify Him. Every time you see the word " LORD " you should be seeing the Name, YHWH. Why is it missing, another way to look at it is, Why is it hidden?

Such an important , personal Name, hidden. How important is it? and why was it hidden?  I would like to try to answer that question.

First , how important is that Name?

Leviticus 22:32 - And ye shall not profane My holy name; but I will be hallowed among the children of Israel: I am YHWH who hallows you,

Here is one of the 10 commandments.

Exodus 20:6 - Thou shalt not take the name of YHWH thy God in vain; for YHWH will not hold him guiltless that taketh His name in vain.

Leviticus 19:12 - And ye shall not swear by My name falsely, so that thou profane the name of thy God: I am YHWH

Leviticus 22:32 - And ye shall not profane My holy name; but I will be hallowed among the children of Israel: I am YHWH who hallow you,

Here are just a few of the scriptures that refer to the importance of HIS Name:

1 Chronicles 16:10 - Glory be in His holy name; let the heart of them rejoice that seek YHWH.

Psalms 8:2 - O YHWH, our YHWH, how glorious is Thy name in all the earth!

Psalms 148:13 - Let them praise the name of YHWH, for His name alone is exalted;

Isaiah 42:8 - I am YHWH, that is My name; and My glory will I not give to another, neither My praise to graven images.

Isaiah 47:4 - Our Redeemer, YHWH of hosts is His name, The Holy One of Israel.

Isaiah 51:15 - For I am YHWH thy God, who stirreth up the sea, that the waves thereof roar; YHWH of hosts is His name.

Isaiah 63:16 - For Thou art our Father; for Abraham knoweth us not, and Israel doth not acknowledge us; Thou, OYHWH, art our Father, our Redeemer from everlasting is Thy name.

Jeremiah 10:6 - There is none like unto Thee, O YHWH; Thou art great, and Thy name is great in might.

Jeremiah 16:21 - Therefore, behold, I will cause them to know, this once will I cause them to know My hand and My might; and they shall know that My name is YHWH.

Jeremiah 31:34 - Thus saith YHWH, Who giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, who stirreth up the sea, that the waves thereof roar, YHWH of hosts is His name:

Amos 4:13 - For, lo, He that formeth the mountains, and createth the wind, and declareth unto man what is his thought, that maketh the morning darkness, and treadeth upon the high places of the earth; YHWH, the God of hosts, is His name.

Amos 5:8 - Him that maketh the Pleiades and Orion, and bringeth on the shadow of death in the morning, and darkeneth the day into night; that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth; YHWH is His name;

Zephaniah 3:12 - And I will leave in the midst of thee an afflicted and poor people, and they shall take refuge in the name of YHWH.

Zechariah 13:9 - And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried; they shall call on My name, and I will answer them; I will say: 'It is My people', and they shall say: 'YHWH is my God.'

Zechariah 14:9 - And YHWH shall be King over all the earth; in that day shall YHWH be One, and His name one.

Zechariah 14:9 - And YHWH shall be King over all the earth; in that day shall YHWH be One, and His name one.

Malachi 3:16 - Then they that feared YHWH spoke one with another; and YHWH hearkened, and heard, and a book of remembrance was written before Him, for them that feared YHWH, and that thought upon His name.

After reading these scriptures and see their importance, I must ask you something.

And this is between you and your god, only. How many times have you called on the name of YHWH?

If you have never called on His Name and have called on another name then you have missed the point. Only His name is referring to God, the Creator and Father.

All other names are in vain.  As sincere as you may be you must call on Him, seek Him and He will answer you. He is the one that can give you peace, answers, joy and salvation.

Yes, I know that the name has been hidden or lost, but we should be looking for it once we know that it is missing. If we read the old scripture and the new ones we should be aware that the foundation is the old. It came first. If you look for the Creator then obviously you are aware that He is referred to several times in the old scriptures for us all to see. Now you know that LORD is just a title and not His Name.  This if made very clear on the day that he spoke to Moses at the burning bush.

There is also only one that saves and no other.

2 Samuel 22:47 - YHWH liveth, and blessed be my Rock; and exalted be the God, my Rock of salvation;

Psalms 68:20 - Blessed be YHWH, day by day He beareth our burden, even the God who is our salvation. Selah

Isaiah 12:2 - Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for  YHWH is my strength and song; and He is become my salvation.'

Hosea 13:4 - Yet I am YHWH thy God from the land of Egypt; and thou knowest no God but Me, and beside Me there is no saviour.

Isaiah 43:11 - I, even I, am YHWH; and beside Me there is no saviour.

Isaiah 45:21 - Declare ye, and bring them near, yea, let them take counsel together: Who hath announced this from ancient time, and declared it of old? Have not I YHWH? And there is no God beside Me, a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside Me.

YHWH is the Rock of our Salvation.

Have you been seeking another rock? There is no other Rock.

Even Moses tells us that others will seek another "rock" but there is none.

Deuteronomy 32:31 - For their rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies themselves being judges.

And they seek another vine.

Deuteronomy 32:32 - For their vine is of the vine of Sodom, and of the fields of Gomorrah; their grapes are grapes of gall, their clusters are bitter;

If you are not seeking the rock or vine named YHWH again your search is in vain.

Why have you not known His Name?

Jeremiah 23:27 - That think to cause My people to forget My name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbour, as their fathers forgot My name for Baal.

Another word for Baal is Lord.....they have forgotten name for a Lord.

Let me tell you what happened...the Israeli priesthood hid the name. They would not allow it to be spoken or written.  They separated the people from their El, their God.

Was the TRUE Pronunciation of YAHWEH Lost?

Now we should investigate the Hebrew names for God more closely.  The name of God that gets the most attention in this teaching is "Yahweh" or "Jehovah," which is more traditionally translated "YHWH."  This name comes from the four consonant letters "YHWH" in Hebrew, and is so called the Tetragammaton.  Because ancient Hebrew was written only in consonants and a few semi-vowels, those who read it aloud had to supply the missing vowel sounds.  The Jews after returning from the Babylonian captivity under Ezra and Nehemiah (c. 450 b.c.) began to reverence the name "Yahweh" so greatly they outlawed the very use of it, first for the common people, later for the priests.  Finally, only the high priest, and then only on the Day of Atonement, was allowed to say it.  When Simon (300 to 270 b.c.) died, who was the last high priest permitted to use it, a total prohibition against saying the Name came into force among the Jews.  They would substitute the word "Adonay"--"Lord," or sometimes "Elohim"--"God," for the YHWH whenever they encountered it when reading aloud the scriptures.  The medieval Jewish scribes who preserved the Hebrew Old Testament, the Masoretes, around the sixth or seventh century A.D. devised a system of using dots and other small marks to symbolize what vowels came between the originally inspired consonants.  However, the pronunciation of "Yahweh" was not preserved by them.  Whenever YHWH appeared in the next, they put in the vowel points for Adonay or sometimes, as appropriate, Elohim, in order to avoid saying "Lord" twice in a row.  This clued the oral reader to say the substitute name for Yahweh.

Why did the Jews stop saying YHWH?

The Jews came to have this misconception against saying "Yahweh" due to a misinterpretation of Leviticus 24:11, 16.  The Hebrew word translated "blaspheme" in these texts--nachav--can also be translated "to say clearly" or "to declare distinctly."  If we translate nachav this way in Leviticus 24:16, a total prohibition against saying "Yahweh" results:

"'And whoever [declares distinctly] the name of [Yahweh] shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him . . . (NKJV throughout, unless otherwise noted).'"

Since the Jews over the centuries made the oral tradition of interpreting the law a hedge or fence around the actual written law of the Torah to help ensure the latter wasn't violated, the same practice was adopted here.  To play it safe, they decided never to say the Name--YHWH--even though the inspired scriptures contain this name time and time again, demonstrating the falsity of this tradition.

There are numerous scriptures that tell us to call on His Name, and should make this old tradition null and void.

1 Chronicles 16:8 -  Give thanks unto YHWH, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people.

Psalms 72:17 -  His name shall endure for ever: his name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in him: all nations shall call him blessed.

Psalms 80:18 -  So will not we go back from thee: quicken us, and we will call upon thy name.

Psalms 105:1 -  O give thanks unto YHWH; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people.

Psalms 116:13 -  I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of YHWH.

Isaiah 12:4 -  And in that day shall ye say, Praise YHWH, call upon his name, declare his doings among the people, make mention that his name is exalted.

Isaiah 45:3 -  And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, YHWH, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.

Zephaniah 3:9 -  For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of YHWH, to serve him with one consent.

Zechariah 13:9 -  And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, YHWH is my God.

And for those that don't call on Him.

Jeremiah 10:25 -  Pour out thy fury upon the heathen that know thee not, and upon the families that call not on thy name: for they have eaten up Jacob, and devoured him, and consumed him, and have made his habitation desolate.

Eliezar Ben Yehuda (1858-1922) began promoting the use of Hebrew at home and in schools. The Hebrew language was considered a "dead language" . And after the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls in the early 1900's the Name of the ancient God was revealed for all to see. At that time we begin to see a resurgent in seeking out this Almighty God , YHWH, that had been lost.

Another personal question for you to only answer to yourself. Now that you know the Name are you going to begin seeking more about that great Creator, YHWH?

I personally, had to go back and reread the old scriptures when I discovered this and every time I ran across the words "the LORD" I had to replace it in my mind the holy name of YHWH. Now I don't even see that word anymore or even like to say it. It has been replaced in my mind. Also, when reading scripture in this new way, a whole new paradigm opens up. You are no longer thinking of the god/man that is referred to in the new writings. I hope I have proven to you that he is not YHWH.

One last scripture that I think is of vital importance, and on it, I will close. I hope YHWH will give you new eyes to see.

Joel 2:32 - [3:5] And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of YHWH shall be delivered; for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be those that escape, as YHWH hath said, and among the remnant those whom YHWH shall call.
